This power ventilator is rather easy to install on a cool day. A cool day is easier on the installer and on the shingles. This ventilator was installed in the early spring with the temperature setting on about 100. As a consequence, it did not operate until several months later. One evening I noted a noise on the roof and sure enough the power ventilator was operating as it should. Later in the evening it was OFF. As it is now March 2014, the unit is OFF and very quiet.

Great fan except it’s incredibly noisy. When it’s on you can hear it from any room in the house. It does pull alot of air and looks nice but it’s a headache to have on. It’s pretty dissappointing to go through the hassle of hiring an installer just for it to be so noisy. I’m overal not happy with the fan because of this one key defect.

Was disappointed when it stopped working after 1 year. Husband just installed replacement which took quite some time. Would have thought this would last longer.

Suitable replacement for an existing attic exhaust fan but the thermostat died fairly quickly. Part was quickly replaced even though it was just outside of warranty. Thanks!

Put 2 of these in in 1980. Both lasted till 2010 (30 years). Of the two, one stopped running at all and the other still ran OK but it had gotten noisy and the neighbor paid for a replacement. One of those I put in in 2010 has now failed (6 years). I don’t know if it was just a bad one or if the manufacturing quality changed between 1980 and 2010. I suspect it did.
I’m not sure any other brand would be any better as I suspect they are all now manufactured in cheap labor countries with marginal quality assurance and least expensive materials. So, I’ll be ordering a new one of the same model so I can just replace the fan and control unit from inside the attic without having to muck around with roof shingles to replace the whole housing that I’d have to do with a different brand or model..

I bought this to replace an existing Broan that had worked well. I give it 2 stars because it was fairly easy to install and had pretty good documentation.
BUT…. The temperature control began to malfunction about 30 days later. It was as if I adjusted it to a temperature 10-15 degrees lower (but I hadn’t touched it). Unfortunately, I can only access it from the roof so I couldn’t easily go up and adjust it. So it ran almost continuously. I ended up turning it off using the breaker on some days when it made no sense to be running.
IT GETS WORSE. So I turned the breaker back on because we are in a hot spell and now the temperature controller is running for 5-10 seconds and turning off. Wow – that will destroy my electric bill with all of that startup current.
So this fan has cost me a lot of extra money by running when it shouldn’t, and it is LESS THAN TWO MONTHS OLD! That is amazingly poor quality. I have bought a lot of Broan/Nutone products over the years – this is likely my last.
Oh – and as others have said, it seems like the fan got noisier as it got more and more use.
